Scene #3
"Something I can help you with?" She snapped, mortified as she felt
color heat her cheeks. The man's eyebrows shot upward. "Is
this how you treat all your customers?" He asked, slipping onto the
stool at the end of the bar. Ashlyn clenched her teeth. What
was it about this blonde that made her crazy? "Actually," She
hissed, grabbing up the rag that Jayce had abandoned and swiping at
the bar, "I reserve this treatment for the few people who think
it's ok to treat my friends like crap." "I'm sorry?" His
breath feathering over her ear had her dropping the rag in
surprise. How had he moved that silently and swiftly? When her blue
eyes met his ocean ones she felt fresh fury fill her. His eyes
sparkled with amusement. So he thought what he'd done to Jayce was
funny? "You think what you did to Jayce was a joke?" She
hissed up at him, her whole body shaking in anger. The man was a
colossal ass, acting like he didn't know what was going on!
"What are you talking about?" The blonde man asked, the look in his
eyes shifting from amused to surprised. "I did nothing last night
but take your friend home. He was much too drunk to drive himself."
"So you didn't lead him on last night? Purring your drink
order at him?" Ashlyn snapped. "Purring? I wasn't aware that
I had purred at anyone," Draven said, one eyebrow raised.
Ashlyn was finding it very hard not to punch him in his smug mouth,
so she clenched her hands, focusing on the pain of her fingernails
digging into her palm to keep her sane. "You might not be
aware of it, but everyone else is! You made him feel like a fool!
Like he wasn't good enough for you! Listen here Bub," Ashlyn
snarled, unclenching her hands long enough to poke him in the
chest. "Jayce is one of the nicest, sweetest guys you'll ever meet!
In fact, I think...no I know he's too good for you!" "Are you
quite finished now? Maybe you'd like to hear my side of what
happened before you assault me any more?" The man asked as he
caught her hand, that smug expression still on his face. Oh
that is it! Ashlyn thought. Before either of them could react, she
drew her free hand into a fist and punched him. Punched him as
hard as she could, right in that smug mouth. While the blow
caused shock waves to run up her arm, he barely moved, rocking back
slightly. He took a step back, eyeing her. A sparkle in his eyes
made it seem that he was seeing her in a new light. "Well I
must admit, that was a first," He chuckled, rubbing his jaw. Ashlyn
just stared at him in shock. "II mean, I didn't" She
tried to stammer out an apology as Jayce came barreling out of the
office. "Ashlyn! What the hell?! You didn't just-" Jayce's
eyes were round as saucers as he looked from her to the blonde.
"Jayce, I'm taking a day. I think I've lost my mind!"
Ashlyn whispered, before she turned and fled the bar. "Oh
my God! Sir, I am so sorry! That is so unlike Ashlyn!" Jayce
stammered, praying that this incident was not going to result in a
lawsuit. Draven smiled. So she had a little spirit
in her after all. That was good to know. He spied her purse on the
bar, and grabbed it up quickly. "I think she might need
this," He chuckled, heading out the door.
